Record store owner chases dreams in OVC
Song Yizhuang, a record store owner in East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC), has been pursuing his musical dreams for more than 20 years in Wuhan.
Born in the 1970s in Guangdong province, Song moved to Wuhan in 2000, where he earned a living by selling records in the city's colleges. "My records sold best in Huazhong University of Science and Technology, followed by Wuhan University of Technology. Science students have good taste in music," said Song, recalling his street vending past.
He opened his first physical record store in 2003 and filled it with all kinds of records – rock and rolls, jazz, pop, classics, and so on. Song has become passionate about music and excels in recommending records for customers.
With the arrival of the digital era and numerous intelligent devices, the record industry is becoming less and less popular, but Song remains determined to maintain his business and dream.
