Young community leader finds her passion at OVC
When women enter middle age, they usually experience a number of age-related anxieties. The 32-year-old Party secretary Qiu Ying of Huanglongshan community at the East Lake High-tech Development zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC), has successfully overcome such anxieties by serving over 6,000 households in her community.
Majoring in fashion design, Qiu graduated from college in 2010 and moved to Wuhan two years later. Now she is taking care of all the residents in her community and has established a culture and sport plaza, and renovated a senior citizen activity center within a single year.
In addition, Qiu has gone door to door to learn about the practical needs of residents. One of Qiu's notebooks keeps detailed records of people over 80 without regular care and other special groups. She attends to these people from time to time by chatting with and cooking for them.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, she became a frontline worker on duty 24 hours. The power bank inside her bag allowed her to answer calls anytime.
