The East Lake High-tech Development Zone, also known as Optics Valley of China -- in Wuhan, capital of Central China's Hubei province -- is currently home to the second headquarters of 80 internet companies, with more than 100,000 employees, according to local reports.

In addition, the number of high-tech companies in the zone reportedly accounts for more than 60 percent of the city's total.

In 2020, Optics Valley added 20,000 various types of business entities, including 18,000 companies -- taking its total number of resident business entities to 140,000, including 100,000 companies.

The zone added 830 high-tech companies in 2020, accounting for 45.1 percent of Wuhan's total of 1,842.

During the year, the zone added 460 gazelle companies -- or fast-growing companies -- operating in areas including biomedicine, integrated circuits, the digital economy and more. That compared with 215 of these companies added in 2015.

In addition to internet companies, many investment companies or institutions have also set up their second headquarters in Optics Valley, including Shunwei Capital and Shenzhen Capital Group Co Ltd.

The arrival of more second headquarters is believed to not only bring talented personnel, but is said to play an important role in promoting the zone's and the city's economic prosperity.
