Two national university science parks will be added at East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China) in Wuhan, the capital city of Central China's Hubei province, bringing the total number of national university science parks in the zone to five.

This is according to the list of the 11th batch of national university science parks, announced by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education on June 1.

The two new national university science parks will be based at Central China Normal University and the Wuhan University of Technology.

National university science parks refer to sci-tech platforms that rely on universities with scientific research advantages and characteristics.

They integrate the university's science and education resources with market advantages and innovation resources to promote the integration of innovation resources, the transformation of sci-tech achievements, incubation of sci-tech companies, cultivation of innovative personnel and more. They serve as platforms for the integration of technology, education and economic development.

Central China Normal University's national university science park focuses on cultural, technological and creative industries. As Hubei's only national university science park integrating culture and science and technology, it features digital content, digital education, digital publishing, creative design, calligraphy and painting art.

The Wuhan University of Technology's national university science park focuses on new materials, new energy vehicles, smart ships and machinery and equipment manufacturing.

Three more national university science parks are based at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University and Optics Valley.
