New railway station in Optics Valley gets official name

The new railway station under construction at East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China) in Wuhan, capital city of Central China's Hubei province, was officially named Wuhan East Railway Station on Aug 30, according to local media reports.

The station, with a total planning land area of about 2.65 square kilometers, is being constructed on the site of the original Liufang Railway Station.

It was given the tentative name of the Optics Valley Railway Station for the project planning and design, preliminary procedures and construction.

According to zone officials, the railway station is the fourth railway station under construction in Wuhan and it will connect three intercity railways, two metro lines, bus rapid transit (BRT), conventional buses and underground parking.

After completion, zone officials added, the railway station will be a large-scale comprehensive transport transfer hub for Optics Valley.

It will also be a Wuhan railway hub with convenient and rapid transfers between various transport modes.

Officials said it will drive the economic development of surrounding areas and form a comprehensive service center dominated by traffic distribution and supported by public services, industry and residential quarters.
