New technology from Douyu TV -- a major live streaming enterprise in Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley) -- recently had its patent authorized by the Patent and Trademark Office of the United States.

The technology allows customers to switch between landscape and portrait orientations on their phone screens easily while watching live streaming videos. It has been largely applied across China. 

Another major high-tech firm in Optics Valley, China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT), also had a number of patents authorized in the US. Statistics shows that in 2018, it obtained 270 patents in the US, becoming the company with the largest number of US patents in Wuhan city. 

According to Wuhan Administration for Market Regulation (Municipal Intellectual Property Office), 1,475 patents in Wuhan were applied for overseas through the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) in 2018. 

Enterprises engaging in businesses such as high-tech integrated circuits, display panels, smart terminals and digital economy accounted for half of the top 10 companies with the most patents. 

The most eye-catching ones included Douyu TV, CSOT, and FiberHome, which are all located in Optics Valley. 

Huang Yuye, vice-president of the School of Intellectual Property of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, said that the increasing number of international patent applications indicates the strengthened innovation abilities and enhanced intellectual property awareness of Wuhan enterprises.
