The 5th China Xizang Trans-Himalaya Forum for International Cooperation opened in Nyingchi, Southwest China's Xizang autonomous region, on July 17.

Wang Guangqian, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.

Wang said that the Himalayan region, home to the world's highest mountains and the headwaters of many major rivers, is a shared ecological treasure. Protecting this pristine region is the common responsibility and historic mission of all countries in the region, he added.

Since the launch of the China Xizang Trans-Himalaya Forum for International Cooperation, China has worked with participating parties to promote exchanges and cooperation in areas including environmental governance, green development and mutual learning among civilizations, achieving fruitful results, he said.

Wang said China will work with all parties to enhance political mutual trust, practical cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, and multilateral coordination, in a bid to build a cleaner and more sustainable future.

The forum was hosted by the people's government of the Xizang autonomous region and attended by representatives from 29 countries and regions.
