Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, led a team from the Committee on Education, Science, Health and Sports of the CPPCC National Committee to South China's Hainan province from Nov 11 to 14 to survey work on enhancing public fitness services.
The team visited schools, training centers, public fitness facilities and outdoor exercise venues in Qiongzhong and Baoting Li and Miao autonomous counties and Wuzhishan, a county-level city, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the integration of sports and education, infrastructure development for fitness, and the construction of local public fitness service systems.
The team emphasized the need to build accessible and eco-friendly fitness facilities and reduce urban-rural disparities. They called for maximizing the role of public fitness in achieving rural vitalization and in fostering an age-friendly society, and promoting the integrated development of sports with culture, tourism and other industries. They also encouraged localized and needs-driven innovations to boost public fitness development.
During the survey trip, team members gave sports lessons in 10 local primary and secondary schools, which is part of the "serving the people" initiative of the CPPCC National Committee.
