Teleseminar held to strengthen cross-Strait industrial cooperation

The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a teleseminar in Beijing on Dec 25, focusing on strengthening cross-Strait industrial cooperation and creating a common market for both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the meeting. He highlighted the importance of implementing the plans of the 20th CPC National Congress and the Party's overall policy for resolving the Taiwan question in the new era, urging consultation efforts to center around strengthening cross-Strait industrial cooperation to create a common market and promote integrated development.

Wang called for conducting more in-depth study of the deep-seated issues related to cross-Strait industrial cooperation and the development of a common market for both sides, and proposed more pertinent and practical countermeasures and suggestions. He also underlined the practice of various forms of consultation and democratic supervision to help advance the improvement and implementation of policies and measures, and leveraging of the advantages of the CPPCC while making good use of relevant platforms to deepen grassroots connection and exchanges among compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

A number of CPPCC members and experts made speeches on site and via video link from different locations across the country, calling for continuous implementation of preferential policies for Taiwan and assisting Taiwan compatriots and enterprises in better integrating into the country's new development paradigm. They also agreed to strengthen mutual recognition and alignment of rules and standards between the two sides to optimize the business environment for Taiwan compatriots and enterprises, to further boost cross-Strait talent exchanges and cooperation, and to build a sound environment to serve the entrepreneurship and development of high-end professionals.

Officials from the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee briefed the meeting participants on relevant information, and conducted consultations and discussions with the CPPCC members and officials from the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Commerce.
