On March 27, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference's Committee on Proposals conducted a survey via video link on improving food safety supervision in the takeaway industry.
Zhang Qingli, vice-chairman and deputy secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of the CPPCC National Committee, attended and addressed the event.
Zhang pointed out that food safety is one of the most important livelihood issues the public is concerned about and a basic requirement for a society which is well-off in an all-round way. As the takeaway catering industry has developed rapidly in recent years, it is of vital importance to strengthen the supervision of its safety.
There is no precedent and experience in the world for establishing a food safety supervision system in a takeaway industry with hundreds of millions of takeaway users and millions of merchants, Zhang said, adding that the CPPCC National Committee is striving to solve the problem via consultation at the bi-weekly seminar.
Zhang emphasized that it is necessary to conduct in-depth research, firstly on setting strict regulations to promote the formation of a whole-chain supervision system for food production, distribution, and consumption; secondly on improving the supervision system to advance the construction of a safety supervision platform, a safety standard system, and a risk prevention and control system; thirdly on legal implementation to avoid lax or selective enforcement; and lastly on building a multi-party co-governance pattern to improve work responsibility and promote the formation of co-management patterns in the takeaway industry.
The survey was prepared for the upcoming bi-weekly seminar of the CPPCC National Committee.
