Enhancing the public cultural services in rural areas is an important element of the rural vitalization strategy, Wang Yang said.

Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, made the remarks while attending a special consultative conference on rural public cultural services in Beijing on July 23.

Wang said we should base our work on Party leadership as well as the running of the country by the people and proceed from the country's prevailing reality. Designing tailor-made policies based on local conditions with persistent efforts will lead to a broad, basic and fair public cultural service system.

A total of 110 CPPCC members attended the meeting with 28 of them making speeches, actively evaluating the significant accomplishments in China's rural public cultural services since the 18th National Congress of the CPC.

They also pointed out problems such as insufficient cultural service resources, inaccurate coordination between supply and demand, and gaps in cultural talents at the community level.

Their suggestions included relying on rural people concerning cultural facility construction, management and operation, and safeguarding the participation and autonomy rights of rural people. The guidance on rural culture should be strengthened, with advanced culture developed, backward culture transformed, and harmful culture resisted.

Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, shared the achievements on improving the rural public cultural service system, improving coverage of cultural projects benefiting the people, inheriting excellent traditional culture, nurturing a civilized rural atmosphere, helping eliminate poverty and strengthening weakness in rural culture.

The sense of cultural attainment and happiness of rural people is continuously increasing, Huang said.

Next, publicity and culture departments will fully implement all major policies and plans made by the CPC Central Committee, join forces with all sectors of society, focus on the new needs and expectations of rural people, and innovate working principles, ideas and methods to provide rich and high-quality public cultural services.
