On the afternoon of October 11, UCLA Chancellor Dr. Gene Block and his party came to XJTU where they were met by University President Zheng Nanning and Vice President Yan Jianqun in room 107 of the Science Hall. The two parties discussed matters of mutual interest, notably student exchange programs between the two universities. They agreed on the desirability of maintaining and expanding these programs, and reached consensus on further enlarging cooperation in the future. In his remarks, Chancellor Block focused mainly on the ten-month training program for the students of XJTU.

Currently, the cooperative programs between XJTU and UCLA consists of: summer vacation research program for UCLA undergraduates (ten weeks), the credit program of UCLA (one semester) and winter vacation overseas English Study Program of UCLA (four weeks).
