Xiamen on fast track to digitalization
An unveiling ceremony for Xiamen Free Trade Digitalization Promotion Center was held on June 18 at Xiamen Southeast International Shipping Center, Xiamen in East China's Fujian province. The event signaled the beginning of the construction of Xiamen Digital Free Trade Pilot Zone.
The center will promote an alliance among the central and local governments, research institutions, universities and enterprises which will work towards the digitalization process in the Xiamen Free Trade Zone (FTZ).
Officials from the Xiamen FTZ administrative committee, the Ministry of Commerce, representatives from the China Academy of Information and Communication Technology and 10 leading enterprises attended the ceremony and signed two cooperation agreements. The center also hired 12 experts and scholars consistently devoted to the digital economy as consultants.
The center's founding is a ground-breaking moment that further stimulates the digitalization of trade and the service sector. It will give full play to dominant R&D institutes and major digital firms, build new bases for local digital transformation, and advance the development of its upstream and downstream industries.
A document for Xiamen's digital development was officially issued during the ceremony, offering seven specific measures to boost the city's digital technology application, digital innovation and digital economy.
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
