President of Brazil’s Supreme Court visits National Judges College
A delegation from Brazil headed by Luis Roberto Barroso, president of the country's Supreme Court, visited the National Judges College (NJC) in Beijing on July 2, where they were received by Li Chenglin, head of the Political Department of the Supreme People's Court of China.
Li briefed the Brazilian delegation on the main functions and training model of the NJC and on China's wider judicial system. Barroso provided an introduction to Brazil's litigation system and the training process for judges. The two sides also held discussions on how to best address the common challenge of judicial staff shortages, which affects case handling.
Afterwards, Barroso gave a lecture to judges and arbitrators attending a joint training session on judicial review of arbitration under the theme of artificial intelligence, climate change and the crisis in democracy faced by the western world.
