On May 31, on the eve of International Children's Day, the Supreme People's Court (SPC) held a public open day event themed "Judicial Protection Empowers Children's Dreams." Zhang Jun, president of the SPC, attended the event.

Deputies to the National People's Congress, members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, experts, scholars, teachers, students, parents, and representatives from relevant sectors attended the event. Participants engaged in discussions and tour of courtrooms and the China Court Museum.

In his interaction with student representatives, Zhang took various questions on topics ranging from public concern to general knowledge of the court.

In response to a question about seeking help in cases of on-campus bullying, Zhang highlighted the significance of swiftly reporting to parents and teachers, emphasizing the role of adults in protecting children from such harmful behavior.

He also talked about the historical significance of the gavel used in courtrooms, illustrating the evolution of judicial practices over time.

Zhang also addressed concerns about safe use of the internet, stressing the dual nature of the internet as a tool for growth or harm. He advised students to exercise self-discipline, and encouraged parents to set positive examples themselves and establish healthy habits of internet use within the family.

Regarding domestic violence and potential abuse, Zhang made a distinction between disciplinary actions and abuse, urging children to seek help from trusted adults in case of mistreatment. He emphasized the importance of open communication between family members and the role of mandatory reporting system to ensure the well-being of children.

In the lead-up to International Children's Day, the SPC released guidelines on strengthening juvenile judicial protection and crime prevention, along with guiding cases on juvenile judicial protection.
