The Supreme Court of Appeal of the Republic of South Africa: IT contributes to safer internet
Mandisa Maya, president of the Supreme Court of Appeal of the Republic of South Africa, delivered a speech at the World Forum on Rule of Law in Internet on Dec 5 in Wuzhen, East China's Zhejiang province. She outlined technology's role in the progress of law and justice in South Africa and the country's needs for new laws and regulations to fight against online crimes. She also mentioned what her country has done on cracking down cyber crimes. New laws concerning evidences discovering, using and storing and bills protecting private identity information were issued. Special departments were also established to fight against cyber crime and protect information. Finally, she stated that South Africa still face the challenge of improving judicial officials' capacity to use information technology to protect public safety and a free information flow.
