Court head welcomes HK guests
Zhou Qiang, president of China’s Supreme People’s Court, said that the idea of “one country, two systems” is a reflection of political wisdom and has significantly contributed to the world’s judicial systems.
He made the comment when meeting with Yao Cho-Fai, president of the Shanghai-Hong Kong Economic Development Association, on June 11 in Beijing.
Zhou said that he hopes the association will play a bigger role in supporting the principle and the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and gave a brief introduction of the mainland’s jurisdiction reforms and judicial co-operation with Hong Kong.
He also said that courts on the mainland are pushing the reform of the judicial system to ensure the court system can operate in an independent and fair way and that the Hong Kong people are welcome to offer advice on the court system on the mainland.
Yao said that he’s impressed by the adoption of information technology in the court system of the mainland and its judicial openness, and will increase exchanges with the mainland in the future.
