Shandong, located in the Bohai Economic Rim and sitting on the lower reaches of the Yellow River, is a coastal province in eastern China. It has a land area of 155,800 square kilometers and an adjacent sea area of 159,500 square kilometers. Its coastline is 3,345 kilometers long, taking up one-sixth of the country's total. Shandong, home to a galaxy of talent, has a time-honored history. As one of the cradles of the Chinese civilization and the birthplace of Confucianism, it has been reputed as "the Hometown of Confucius and Mencius, and the State of Ceremonies and Proprieties". It is home to a number of great thinkers, statesmen, scientists, physicians, and artists, including Confucius, Mencius, Sun Tzu, and Mozi.
