Siyabonga Cyprian Cwele, South Africa's ambassador to China, attended a livestreaming sales promotion event broadcast on media platforms Douyin and Kuaishou on July 6 to boost sales of South Africa's specialties.

"I know that livestreaming is very popular among Chinese youth. Since last year, we have also promoted exchanges between the youth of the two countries in terms of e-commerce development, hoping to achieve mutual benefits," he said.

The ambassador expressed hope that more Shandong residents will better understand South Africa and more of Shandong's renowned products can be sold in South Africa through the livestreaming event.

According to the ambassador, China is Africa's largest trading partner, and the Western Cape province of South Africa and Shandong province have established friendly ties.

"I think Shandong is a very important province in China, and we can learn a lot from Shandong whether it is their marine economy, manufacturing industry, or the current digitalization efforts," he said.

He also said that the 2023 Global Youth Conference is a high-quality exchange platform for the youth of the two countries, and that it is important to strengthen exchanges and promote mutual understanding between the young people of the two sides.

South Africa has been encouraging tourism practitioners to learn Chinese with the aim of attracting more Chinese tourists, promoting cultural exchanges and expanding cooperation possibilities, he added.
