Xiao Jie, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, attended and delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the 2024 National Evaluation Capacities Conference in Beijing on Oct 14.

Noting that China regards public policy evaluation as an important means to promote the modernization of the national governance system and capacity, Xiao said China has continuously strengthened concept guidance and institutional development, and carried out extensive evaluation practices, forming a preliminary public policy evaluation system with Chinese characteristics.

China is ready to work hand-in-hand with all parties under the framework of the Global Development Initiative to build evaluation systems suited to each country’s national conditions, strengthen capacity building to enhance quality and effectiveness, and carry out international cooperation to provide strong support for the development of each country and the world, he added.

Xiao met with Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Achim Steiner, and held a group meeting with high-level foreign representatives attending the conference.

The conference was co-hosted by the China International Development Cooperation Agency and the UNDP with the theme of "Responsive Evaluation: For Government, For Inclusion, For the Future".
