Somali Parliament visits Tianjin before China-Africa summit

Members of the Somali Parliament who recently visited North China's Beijing, Tianjin, and Shanxi province have expressed admiration for China's progress.

They were particularly impressed by China's advancements in agriculture and technology, and are looking forward to the upcoming Forum on the 2024 Summit of China-Africa Cooperation scheduled for Sept 4-6.

Jama Mohamed Askar, a member of the House of the People Iin Somali finance committee and the Somali-Chinese Parliamentary Friendship Group chairperson, stated, "We aim to emulate the valuable experiences we have gained from China."

The delegation of three Somali Parliamentarians participated in the 2024 Interregional Seminar on the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals for Parliaments of Developing Countries.

During their visit to Tianjin on Tuesday, they visited the world's first zero-carbon terminal at Tianjin Port.

The trip, which took place from Aug 19-28, was organized by the National People's Congress in China and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The seminar, attended by 153 parliamentary leaders and legislators from 32 developing countries in Beijing, facilitated discussions and research excursions in Beijing, Tianjin, and Shanxi province.

"We anticipate the participation of our senior leaders in the 2024 Summit of China-Africa Cooperation in early September, and we are confident that the event will enhance diplomatic and economic relations between China and Africa," remarked Askar.
