On July 30, at the invitation of the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Peng Qinghua, special envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping and vice-chairman of China's National People's Congress Standing Committee, attended the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran, capital of Iran.
During the meeting with Pezeshkian at the presidential palace on July 31, Peng conveyed President Xi's warm greetings and good wishes, congratulating him on assuming office for the 14th presidential term of Iran.
China and Iran share a long history of friendship, and China has always viewed the China-Iran relationship from a strategic and long-term perspective, supporting Iran in safeguarding its national sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, Peng said.
China is ready to work with the new Iranian government to deepen political mutual trust, steadily advance mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, and push for new progress in the China-Iran comprehensive strategic partnership, he added.
Pezeshkian asked Peng to convey his great respect and sincere greetings to President Xi, and expressed heartfelt gratitude to Xi for sending a special envoy to attend his inauguration ceremony.
He said the new Iranian government will be committed to further consolidating and deepening Iran-China relations and place this endeavor in a special and elevated position. Iran will firmly support China in safeguarding its core interests and actively participate in Belt and Road cooperation, as well as the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, so as to promote greater development in Iran-China relations, he noted.
