Senior Chinese legislator visits Hungary

Xiao Jie, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), led a delegation to Hungary from March 19 to 21 at the invitation of the Hungarian National Assembly.

During the visit, he met with László Kövér, speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly, Zsolt Semjén, deputy prime minister of Hungary, and Márta Mátrai, deputy of the speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly.

Xiao said that under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, political mutual trust and the traditional friendship between China and Hungary have been continuously strengthened, resulting in fruitful cooperation across various fields.

Noting that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Hungary, he said that China's NPC is ready to enhance exchanges and cooperation with the Hungarian National Assembly, implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and push bilateral relations to a new level.

He also briefed the Hungarian side on the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese modernization and the second session of the 14th NPC.

The Hungarian side spoke highly of China's development achievements and Hungary-China relations, and reaffirmed its resolute adherence to the One-China principle.

They also stressed the willingness to strengthen high-level exchanges and communication of legislative bodies with China and continue to play an active role in the Belt and Road cooperation as well as the cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries.
