Nantong promotes cultural, tourism offerings in Japan

Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province promoted its cultural and tourism offerings in Osaka on May 20 during the 2025 Osaka World Expo, which is taking place in Osaka, Japan, from April 13 to Oct 13.

The event aimed to deepen cultural and tourism cooperation between Nantong and Japan through on-site promotions, cultural displays, and creative cultural exhibitions.

During the event, the Nantong delegation engaged with Japanese travel agencies to establish travel routes and promote mutual tourism. Head of Japan-based HIS Travel Agency noted the geographical proximity between Nantong and Osaka, highlighting Nantong's unique natural landscapes, historical experiences, rich cuisine, and the convenience of direct flights from Osaka to Nantong.

He revealed that they plan to incorporate Nantong into their travel routes, arranging for Japanese tourist groups to embark on an unforgettable journey in the city. The Japanese tour groups are expected to start visiting Nantong this summer.

The event also featured an exhibition area showcasing Nantong's intangible cultural heritage items such as banyao kites, colorful homespun fabrics, paper-cutting, Nantong cultural and tourism IP Tongtong, as well as cultural and creative products from Nantong Forest Safari Park and other scenic areas.

Nantong blue calico, an outstanding representative of Chinese traditional culture, was displayed at the Chinese Pavilion during the Jiangsu Week. The showcased work, titled Butterflies Courting Blossoms, was created using two national-level intangible cultural heritage items: Nantong blue calico printing and dyeing techniques and tie-dyeing techniques. It features blooming peonies accompanied by butterflies, symbolizing wealth, auspiciousness, happiness, and beauty.
