Rudong fishing fleet kicks off 'first catch' with bumper harvest
Starting Aug 1, 350 licensed fishing boats from Rudong set out for the season's "First Catch". By noon on Aug 3, 18 of the boats had returned fully loaded with seafood, drawing a crowd of eager buyers. Not only seafood vendors but also individual customers rushed to purchase delicacies like swimming crabs and shrimps, which sold out quickly.
Boat owner He Haijun reported bringing back 1,000 boxes of fresh seafood, including swimming crabs and flatfish. "These are in high demand," he said. "Once we unload and resupply, the boat will head back out to sea for more."
In addition to the general catch, Rudong has issued special licenses for 22 boats to harvest sea jellies. Yang Bin, another boat owner, shared that this year's sea jelly harvest has been exceptionally fruitful, with his team catching over 20 barrels, totaling 2,500 kilograms. "The price is still to be determined as it's newly on the market, but the harvest has been really good," Yang noted.
