Qidong sees record-breaking tourism during May Day holiday

During this year's May Day holiday, tourism in Qidong, Jiangsu, was sizzling hot. With 518,900 tourists flocking to the area, tourism revenue reached 258 million yuan ($35.71 million), impressive year-on-year increases of 33.73 percent and 28.9 percent, respectively, and record highs for the period.

In recent years, Qidong has embraced a "water-centric tourism" strategy, with departments focusing on water management, environmental protection, and cultural tourism. They aim to create a picturesque coastline characterized by clear rivers and vast mudflats. The coastline is currently features vibrant attractions such as flower gardens and Tang Dynasty-themed amusement parks.

Strolling along the riverbank, enjoying the fresh air, admiring flowers, camping by the water, collecting seashells, eating seafood – tourists from all directions made the most of early summer. Many rural attractions also saw a steady stream of visitors, adding to the festive atmosphere in the region.
