Nantong in Jiangsu province is accelerating the building of a competitive modern industrial system with Nantong characteristics, local media outlets reported on Jan 25.

Industries have always been the backbone of the industrial economy and Nantong aims to expand its advanced manufacturing clusters.

The city this year will promote the renovation of traditional industries, including chemical engineering, textiles, and mechanical engineering, expand emerging industries such as new-generation information technology and ocean engineering equipment, and foster future industries, including hydrogen energy, cutting-edge new materials, and the low-altitude economy.

Nantong will also promote intelligent renovation, digital transformation and network connectivity in manufacturing industries and explore construction of an online industrial internet platform for each industry.

Enterprises serve as the main force in driving new industrialization as well as the lifeblood of innovation. Therefore, Nantong this year strives to add over 30 State-level "little giants", or novel and elite small and medium-sized enterprises that specialize in a niche market and boast cutting-edge technologies.

The city will also bring in high-profile professionals in scientific innovation as well as cultivate such professionals and establish a talent team comprised of innovative entrepreneurs, advanced manufacturing technical personnel, and talent with basic crafts.
