Hai'an pears win provincial recognition
Sample pears from Hai'an, a county-level city in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, won one gold and six silver medals during the fifth Jiangsu High-quality Early Pears Tasting Event in Taizhou, Jiangsu, from July 8 to 9.
Out of the 261 sample pears in the event, 10 were from Hai'an.
The judge panel, consisting of 11 experts from the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Jiangsu provincial station for promoting agricultural technologies, and Jiangsu provincial modern agriculture industrial system, evaluated the sample pears in terms of weight, soluble solid, crispness and flavor.
Among the winners, Suncui One, a variety of sample pear from Hai'an Dapeng family farm, was awarded the gold medal.
Hai'an has been making significant strides in the pear plantation industry by introducing new pear tree varieties and promoting innovative plantation technologies and models.
The county is currently home to 5,000 mu (333.33 hectares) of pear orchards. The main cultivated varieties include Sucui One, Cuiguan, Xingao, Qiuyue, and Fengshui.
