A promotional conference for the investment environment of the Tongzhou Bay Demonstration Zone in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, was held in Beijing on April 18.

The conference witnessed the signing of six projects related to new materials, equipment manufacturing, and ship building and engineering that have a combined value of 6.58 billion yuan ($950.55 million).

Among these projects is the Tongzhou Bay equipment manufacturing base.

According to local authorities, the base will produce nearly 200,000 metric tons of heavy machinery, such as ship loaders, gantry cranes and ocean platforms.

Another project is a modular manufacturing plant that is expected to generate sales of 2.5 billion yuan and contribute more than 200 million yuan in taxes.

Tongzhou Bay has in recent years experienced rapid development.

In the first quarter of this year, the growth rates of three key indicators - industrial economy, efficiency, and investment - in the zone were among the highest of all areas in Nantong.

The zone now has industrial clusters for equipment manufacturing and modern textile industry.
