Authorities in Chongchuan district in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province said they would be bolstering efforts to improve child care services and amenities this year, local media reported.
Among the measures taken is the construction of three larger neighbourhood-level child care centers and 32 smaller community-level ones. The construction of the neighbourhood-level centers had already started in 2020 following a pilot in the sub-district of Hongqiao.
To date, two neighbourhood-level child care centers in Wenfeng sub-district and Xuetian sub-district, and 14 community-level ones have been put in use.
The neighbourhood-level center in Wenfeng sub-district spans 200 square meters and consists of a dancing room and a library. To date, it has organized nearly 40 activities that have benefited about 600 children.
In addition, the neighbourhood-level center in Xuetian sub-district has introduced six children care organizations. Since its establishment, the center has hosted 36 activities related to culture, sports, education, safety and rule of law.
Wang Chenglong, head of the social affairs department at the Chongchuan Civil Affairs Bureau, said that one neighbourhood-level child care center and 18 community-level ones will be launched by the end of this year.
The district is aiming to have at least one neighbourhood-level child care center in each sub-district during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.
