Haimen strengthens protection of biodiversity

Haimen district in Nantong boasts a pleasant climate and has abundant rainfall and sunshine, which has endowed the region with diverse biological resources.
According to the local authority, the district is home to 1,155 species, including 574 aquatic and terrestrial vascular plants, 137 terrestrial vertebrates, 176 terrestrial insects, as well as 268 fish, benthic animals and planktons.
In recent years, the local government has been working to protect the district's biodiversity by building a number of ecological parks and giving priority to the restoration of the environment in the Yangtze River.
In addition, relevant departments have taken scientific measures to prevent and control the emergence of invasive species such as canada goldenrod and golden apple snails.
Educational activities have also been held regularly to raise public awareness of the importance of protecting biodiversity.
