The first Haimen Elites' Day and the fourth Dongzhou Elites Venture Week opened in Haimen district, Nantong on May 25, local media outlets reported.
More than 400 experts and scholars from universities like Tsinghua University, Peking University, and Shanghai Jiaotong University, as well as business leaders, took part in the event to discuss innovative development and entrepreneurship in the district.
As the hometown of Zhang Jian, an industry pioneer and educator in modern China, Haimen has attached great importance to cultivating and attracting talent for its high-quality growth.
Early this year, the district government designated May 25 as its annual Elites' Day in memory of Zhang Jian and aims to bring in more high-caliber workers and entrepreneurs.
A "good performance" award for startups was also handed out that day. Luo Shun, chairman of Thousand Oaks Biopharmaceuticals, which was founded in Haimen in 2017, received 2 million yuan ($313,600) in awards.
At the event, business leaders and scholars delivered keynote speeches on Haimen's industrial development, while agreements for 25 projects involving various fields, such as medicine and new materials, were signed.
Other highlights of the event include a summit forum on medicine in the Yangtze River Delta region, matchmaking meetings for the local robot and high-end equipment manufacturing industries, as well as road shows featuring intelligent equipment and new-generation information technology.
