Construction work on an elderly care service complex will start in Haimen district, Nantong in January 2021, officials announced at a news conference held by the district's civil affairs bureau Nov 27.

The complex, which will cost 27 million yuan ($3.9 million) to build, will offer an array of services, including day-time nursing, meal delivery, exercise and rehabilitation, and recreation, to local elderly people, officials said.

The district has been increasing its efforts to improve its elderly care services, with 12 district and town-level elderly service centers having been built in 2020.

The local government will spend more than 20 million yuan annually in the following years to improve services and expand its coverage from the current 35,000 elderly people to 55,000 people.
