A Weibei calligraphy exhibition opened on May 31 at the Literary and Art Gallery in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province.

It is part of the city's 15th May Wind Literature and Art Festival and showcases more than 60 Weibei works by 15 local calligraphers.

Weibei refers to inscriptions on tablets, cliffs and statues during the Northern Dynasties (386-581) and is an important part of Chinese calligraphy art.

Nantong has been home to a number of Weibei masters since the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The works on exhibition include copies of classic scripts and innovations on traditional styles.
