Haimen village official works hard to control epidemic
The secretary of the Party branch of Chenghe village in Haimen, Nantong, Jiangsu province, has been getting only 4 hours sleep a day as she devotes all her efforts to helping control the coronavirus outbreak.
"The secretary of our village has been on duty continuously for the past week," said a villager in Chenghe. "It's hard work for a strong man, let alone a woman."
Feng Juying, the village's Party secretary, has been monitoring the situation of returnees, reporting latest information on the virus epidemic, answering villagers' questions and publicizing tips on epidemic prevention and control.
There are more than 3,700 villagers and most officials there are women, some of whom are breastfeeding babies. To relieve the pressure on the mothers, Feng decided to be on duty at night as well as during the day to help her fellow villagers.
Although her home is not far from the office of the village committee, she has stayed at the office for several days, catching a few hours of sleep there between her various duties.
To prevent the virus epidemic spreading, Feng has persuaded villagers not to have gatherings and has asked local enterprises not to start production ahead of schedule unless specified.
Feng said it is her responsibility to strengthen villagers' awareness of preventing and controlling the virus and help them protect themselves from infection.
