Farmers pick lotus roots at Xinshe village, in Duntou town, Haian, Nantong, a city in East China's Jiangsu province on March 25. In recent years, Duntou Town has taken advantage of its location -- the town sits in a depression -- to focus on planting lotus roots. At present, lotuses cover an area measuring 1,200 mu (80 hectares) in Xinshe village. Local farmers use organic fertilizers such as biogas, and try to rear lobsters and mullets in the waters where the lotuses are planted, helping them boost their incomes. [Photo/IC]
