Xinghua city, located in East China's Jiangsu province, has set itself the goal of restoring 10,000 hectares of arable land within a decade.
That's in response to the results of the third national land survey released in 2019, showing that Xinghua's total amount of arable land that year was 10,313 hectares less than that declared in the national survey in 2009.
Based on the target, the city has determined the areas designated for arable land restoration and compiled annual restoration charts. It has also set up dedicated lead groups and working teams for the restoration program.
In the restoration of arable land, Xinghua encourages measures such as fostering high standard farmland construction, prioritizing cultivation, and promoting afforestation.
A fund of 10,000 yuan ($1,378) per mu (0.067 hectares) will be provided to townships to raise their enthusiasm for the protection and restoration of arable land.
The goal for Xinghua's restoration of arable land is 1,200 hectares in the current year.
