Xinghua city in East China's Jiangsu province has implemented well-facilitated farmland renovation and upgrades since last year.
This year, the Xinghua city area has designated 3,933 hectares for high-standard farmland renovation and upgrading.
Plans in place are to construct 30 floodgates, three drainage stations, 154 small power stations, 83 bridges suitable for agricultural machinery to pass over, as well as 81.9 kilometers of reinforced roads that can handle heavy farming equipment.
On completion, they will meet the current high-standard farmland requirements.
Chenbao town is a prime example of the initiative. The high-standard renovation and upgrading area there involves farmland covering 667 ha.
In particular, the town will construct 0.8 ha of farmland with water withdrawal ponds, 27 ha of underground irrigation pipelines, 881 meters of access paths and one farmland quality monitoring point in its demonstration area.
The aim is to form a well-facilitated farmland area with support functional facilities, full coverage of electric irrigation and mechanical operations, as well as production and tourism capabilities.
It is expected that the renovation and upgrading of the town's 667 ha of high-standard farmland will be completed in early December.
