Haozi folk music from Xinghua city, located in East China's Jiangsu province, featured recently in a national folk song performing event, held in Yulin city, in Northwest China's Shaanxi province.
The event, held on Aug 7-11, attracted 112 music programs and 759 performers from 25 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.
Folk song enthusiasts and artists from all over the country gathered to hear the different styles of folk songs.
On the evening of Aug 11, the Xinghua performance of Maoshan Haozi · Spring Plowing – led by Lu Aiqin, a national inheritor of Maoshan haozi intangible cultural heritage and Zhang Weihua, provincial ICH inheritor – was performed.
The gentle and beautiful melody, authentic local lyrics and stunning water town scenery earned the performance rounds of applause from the audience.
Maoshan haozi is a traditional music with a long history popular in the Maoshan area in Dainan town, in Xinghua. It was approved for inclusion in the third batch of national intangible cultural heritage in 2010.
In the Maoshan area, people of all ages and genders can sing a section of Maoshan haozi and they improvise and sing lyrics based on different scenarios.
