For their summer vacation, the government departments of Xinghua city – located in East China's Jiangsu province – have launched a public welfare summer care class program for children in need.
Currently, 112 classes have been established, equipped with 624 teachers, members of social organizations and caring volunteers.
To foster the effective advancement of the program, the city has identified 2,767 disadvantaged children, 668 left-behind children and 169 key teenagers.
Moreover, Xinghua has customized its own care measures for each individual and delivered classes to their doorsteps to ensure full coverage.
To top it off, it has also recruited 175 college student volunteers and some literary youths engaged in intangible cultural heritage paper cutting, farmer painting and Haozi folk music, to join a service team for summer care classes.
A long-term mechanism has now been established in the city, which will provide charitable care services during weekends throughout the year.
Adding to that, the city has invited inheritors of intangible cultural heritage to offer special interest courses for children and has also delivered courses on youth safety and self-protection education, mental health education and other areas.
