With more than 2,000 years of recorded history, the town is known its relationship between its waters and fishing. Legend has it that the father of its fishing sector named Fan Li – resigned from office and lived there for three years. Fan wrote the world's first scripture about fish farming and taught the locals the skills.
As a result, for centuries residents depended on fishing for their livelihoods. Nowadays, the relationship between people and water has been redefined and at present a new road to its ecological development is being explored.
