An extended cold snap is hitting Xinghua – the county level city administered by the prefecture-level city of Taizhou in East China's Jiangsu province – sending the temperature rapidly down and growers in Lianzhen village are rushing to transplant their crop of onions to protect them from the biting cold.
The village has explored a new path to common prosperity. It has developed intensive farming of onions – among others – and agricultural mechanization,
digitalization and other advanced production methods.
At present, 371 families in the village are cultivating onions, with a planting area of 1,500 mu (100 hectares).
As of the end of November, the town had sold 7,500 metric tons of onions, bringing in collective income of 1.3 million yuan ($185,82).
