Taizhou city is something of a hidden gem in East China's Jiangsu province that has recently found itself under the spotlight of the country's film industry.

Renowned filmmakers are being drawn to this immensely picturesque city, eager to capture its unique charm and historic landmarks.

Let's explore some of the cinematic treasures that make Taizhou a must-visit destination.

Handong Street

Our tour begins on Handong Street, an ancient thoroughfare that captivated audiences in the 2021 film Brick, directed by Ding Wenjian.

As you stroll along, imagine the scenes from the movie where Handong Street plays a central role. Indeed, the film's credits give heartfelt thanks to "the ancient buildings of Handong Street and its original inhabitants", underscoring its cultural significance.

Dutian Xinggong Temple

Next, we head to the Dutian Xinggong Temple, a key atmospheric location in the film Father and Son. This temple's small stage becomes a powerful symbol of lifelong dreams and family bonds.

In a touching scene, a father and son perform the cherished play The Peony Pavilion together, bringing the temple's rich history to life.

The Peony Pavilion is a classic Chinese play written by Tang Xianzu during the Ming Dynasty. It is one of the most famous and celebrated works in Chinese literature and is a cornerstone of Chinese opera, particularly Kunqu opera.

Fengcheng River, Wanghai Pavilion

For a taste of modern Taizhou, visit the locations featured in the 2022 film You Are My Angel. This story of female entrepreneurship showcases the city's contemporary charm.

At night, the Wanghai Pavilion comes alive with a myriad of shimmering reflections of urban lights on the surface of the water.

The Fengcheng River itself stretches over 10 kilometers, connecting various historical and contemporary landmarks along the old town's riverbanks.
