To celebrate the 130th anniversary of Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang's birth, a special Lantern Festival program was recently recorded at the Wanghai Pavilion – located in Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province.

Co-hosted by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, the Taizhou municipal government and the CCTV Arts Program Center, the event featured a diverse lineup of over 100 performers from nearly 20 opera genres – including Peking Opera, Huaihai Opera, Yu Opera, Kunqu Opera and pingtan (Suzhou ballads).
Scheduled to air on prime time on CCTV Opera Channel on Feb 24 – the 15th day of the first month in the lunar calendar, commonly known as the Lantern Festival – the special program also highlighted the festive scenes of Taizhou during the Lantern Festival.
It presented a fresh image of Taizhou's cultural landmarks, emphasizing the development of local delicacies, handicrafts and other intangible cultural heritage and folk customs.
