The Ministry of Culture and Tourism recently announced the results of the seventh national assessment of public libraries, with all seven public libraries in Taizhou city, Jiangsu province, achieving the highest national ranking.
These libraries include the Taizhou Library, the Jingjiang Library, the Taixing Library, the Xinghua Library, the Jiangyan Library, the Hailing Library, and the Gaogang Library.
Currently, Taizhou's public libraries collectively house over 4 million books, serving 450,000 certified readers. The region has established 178 branch libraries, over 20 urban bookstores, and five 24-hour self-service libraries, all of which cover an area of 45,800 square meters.
During the assessment period, Taizhou invested over 20 million yuan ($2.8 million) to upgrade its infrastructure, enhance its digitalization, and pursue other projects. This ensured that the development of public libraries aligns with the evolving needs of society and meets the diverse cultural demands of the public.
National assessments of public libraries above the county level occur every four years, aiming to promote the overall optimization of a public cultural service system.
