The Taixing High-tech Zone and Yaowang sub-district – located in Taixing city, in East China's Jiangsu province – recently staged a series of literary activities to encourage a love of reading among the public.
The two co-held a parent-child reading activity on April 20 in the local Mangrove Study. Volunteers helped adults and kids to better appreciate traditional culture, learn about the origin and customs of Grain Rain – the sixth of the 24 solar terms – and explore the legend of Cang Jie, a mythical figure of ancient times who is said to have invented Chinese characters thousands of years ago.

Adding to all the fun, Taixing officials attended a reading activity on April 11 to share their insights on Xin Huo Shi Fang Yan, a book about the many charms of the Taixing dialect.
A youth photography special salon was also held on April 18, which invited folks to take a photo of the most beautiful reading figure in the zone. In just one week of solicitation, over 60 submissions were received.
