The Yaowang sub-district of Taixing city – located in East China's Jiangsu province – held a nianhua or New Year pictures or paintings exhibition on Feb 8, to bring a real festive vibe to the Spring Festival celebrations there.
As one of China's oldest and most precious folk arts, nianhua evokes a real sense of New Year's atmosphere. It puts on traditional folk customs events, which always attract large crowds of people to stop and watch.
A brief explanation, with know-how and stories about nianhua, was also provided by volunteers to enable visitors to fully appreciate the unique charms and contemporary appeal of the traditional culture.
Looking ahead, plans are for the Yaowang sub-district to continue to offer a great series of nianhua activities and cultural services for festivals – in the process, bringing in more high-quality cultural products to boost the lives of locals, said Li Jun, a Yaowang sub-district official.
