Jiangsu Tailong Decelerator Machinery Co Ltd – located in the Taixing High-tech Zone in Taixing city, in East China's Jiangsu province – has developed into one of the top reducer manufacturers in China, under the leadership of chairman Yin Genzhang.
A gear reducer is a train placed between the machinery and the motor to adjust the speed of the shaft of the motor when delivered to an application.
In 1982, Yin took over the Nanyin textiles instrument factory, the predecessor of Tailong, when the small factory with only 18 employees was in poor operating condition.
Yin decided to allocate a large amount of funds to its product technology transformation and equipment updates.
In 1986, the development of a gear reducer with swinging teeth was successful and the revenue the following year topped 10 million yuan ($1.37 million), reflecting the smooth and efficient operations of the factory.
In Yin's opinion, the company needed to retain talent first. With the right staff, he said, the company could create everything.
There exists a guideline in Tailong that technical personnel are allowed to fail in developing new technologies and products. What's more, they can receive rewards based on the sales of their new products, which spurs a success rate of Tailong's new product developments that exceeded 80 percent.
Last year, the Tailong technology industrial park – with a total investment of 3 billion yuan – was completed. It focuses on building high-end reducer support products, represented by major transmission equipment such as precision reducers for robot joints and nuclear power specialized gearboxes.
The high-power vertical gearbox units being developed by the company for nuclear power and other specialized industries, with a capacity of over 5,000 kilowatts, are said to have filled a domestic gap in the market.
