The Taixing Economic Development Zone – located in Taixing, the county-level city administered by Taizhou, in East China's Jiangsu province – is really on the ball these days when it comes to protecting its ecosystem and environment.
To check things out there Yang Zhen, vice-chairman of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, visited the Taixing EDZ on Oct 20.
In order to conduct supervision and undertake fact-finding on the ecosystem and environment protection front in the Yangtze River, he learned about the zone's industrial sewage treatment plant – with its capacity of 50,000 metric tons per day – as well as its tail water purification ecological wetlands project.
During the visit, Yang gained a detailed understanding of the industrial wastewater collection and treatment processes, the ecological restoration of river water bodies and tail water purification, among other things.
Yang praised the zone's practice of adopting advanced processing technology to reduce the total emission of pollutants.
The zone's tail water purification ecological wetland project is adopting large cross-sections, short paths and small resistance designs.
That's as well as processes in relation to biological oxidation ponds, vertical subsurface flow wetlands and clear water conservation ponds – thereby realizing the deep purification of tail water.
A three-level prevention and control system for sudden environmental events is also being applied in the zone, to prevent and resolve environmental risks.
