GEM (Jiangsu) Cobalt Industry Co Ltd, based in Taixing city – administered by Taizhou in East China's Jiangsu province – was recently formally recognized as a National Enterprise Technology Center Branch, making it the first of its kind in Taixing.
National Enterprise Technology Centers are seen as being an important part of the development of China's innovation system – and are currently one of the most standardized and influential technology innovation platforms in the country.

Since its establishment in 2003, the company has focused on rolling out a full-life cycle supply chain of cobalt products and has created a green low-carbon cycle manufacturing model for lithium battery materials and their precursors, with the utilization of scrap cobalt resources.
Through research and development, the company has mastered a number of core technologies in the sector – such as the world's first closed-cycle electrowinning process technology, ensuring that it occupies an innovation highland in its field.
Relying on its national-level technology center, plans are for the company to continue to develop in emerging markets like new energy vehicles. It will move to create more internationally influential technology R&D platforms and develop high-tech products with more core competitiveness.
